The International Short Story Festival is a multifaceted celebration of short prose, dedicated to promoting ambitious literature. It focuses on unique presentations of narrative forms, exploring the impact of literature on other areas of art, encouraging interaction between authors and audiences, and facilitating the exchange of experiences among Polish and international creators. It actively participates in discussions about cultural and social transformations in the modern world and strives to restore the connection between literature and the tradition of oral storytelling.
The central feature of the festival includes short story presentations by authors in their original languages, accompanied by simultaneous translations displayed in scenographically altered and annually varied locations. The festival is complemented by performative readings, meetings and workshops for children, exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, a short story and literary translation competition, and creative writing workshops. Additionally, the festival engages in publishing activities, resulting in thematic anthologies.
The Active Communications Association (Towarzystwo Aktywnej Komunikacji) has been operating since 1999. It brings together individuals interested in actively participating in the communication and cultural processes of the modern world. As specialists in various fields such as new media, advertising, television, literature, and information technology, we run educational, social, and artistic projects.
TAK’s activities focus on areas such as literature, theatre, visual arts, and electronic media. Since 2011, the Association has concentrated on developing international projects. Utilizing funds obtained from numerous foreign institutions, we have organized initiatives that promote a fresh perspective on Polish culture in countries like Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, Liechtenstein, Hungary, France, Slovakia, and Iceland. Additionally, we launched an extensive artistic and social project called the Storytelling Workshop, which was a key component of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 program. We produce television programs, documentary films, books, magazines, theatrical performances, and film scripts.
The Association is a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation network and collaborates regularly with institutions across Europe, including Literaturhaus Zurich, Literaturhaus Rostock, ShortStory.EU, Literaturhaus Liechtenstein, Větrné mlýny, Home Théâtre, Hulapa Film, Second Collective, Carpe Artem, Norsk Litteraturfestival, and Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. Through programs conducted in Poland and across Europe, we have secured grants from institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, National Centre for Culture, IMPART 2016 Festival Office, Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Visegrad Fund, the European Commission (GRUNDTVIG Program), the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009–2014, European Cultural Foundation, Ramon Llull Institute, Basque Etxepare Institute, Icelandic Literature Centre, NORLA, Italian Cultural Institute in Kraków, Culture Ireland, Camoes Institute and the Embassy of Portugal, Goethe Institute, and Danish Arts Council.
